The Oklahoma Bass Federation held the first two 2020 State Qualifying tournaments on Lake Texoma, Saturday and Sunday, March 14 the 15. If you like wind, rain and cold weather you would have loved this weekend of fishing on Texoma, however, the consensus of the anglers was that any one of the conditions would be okay but all together it was a very tough weekend for fishing. The water temperature ranged from 55 to 60 degrees F, depending on the area of lake you were fishing. The first day resulted in 15 five fish limits while day two, with increased winds, yielded only 9 limits.
DAY ONE
The Saturday tournament started with rain and cold air temperatures but not much wind. Johnny Babb and Allen Musser (Ada) weighed in the biggest limit of the weekend with 5 fish weighing 20.72# to take the top honors for day one. The limit included a 5.72# lunker. A couple pounds back was another Ada team of Stewart and Wyatt Ryan with 17.78#. The team of Jason and Lynn Conaway (Chickasha) had the only 15# limit for the day that totaled 15.98#, however that total put them in third place. Fourth and fifth place winners both had 14# stringers. Jeremy Vantuyl and Dustin Meyer (Ponca City Hookers) nosed out Gene Vogt and Cody Hunt (PC Hookers) by only 0.22# to take fourth place with a limit weighing 14.35#. Gene and Cody’s limit was 14.13# to garner fifth place. Sixth place went to Donnie Combrink and Curtiss Plunkett (PC Hookers) with a limit weighing 13.53# with Brandon Beck and Jake Beam (Ponca City) only 0.12# back with 13.41# to take seventh place. The only 12# stringer was weighed in by Brandon West and Chris Angier (Bedlam) with their limit tipping the scales at 12.70# to register an eighth-place finish. The next three places all had 11# limits. Leading that group was Troney Langston and George Sawyer (PC) at 11.86# at ninth, followed by John Garcia and Brett Taylor (Bedlam) at tenth with 11.59# while Keltyn Hendrix and Bradley Sullivan (Ada) placed eleventh with 5 fish weighing 11.38#. Dean Matts and Wayne Osborn (Central) took twelfth place with 10.03# while Jody and Don Linder placed thirteenth with 9.75#. Brian Browning and Shane Egger (PC) followed at fourteenth with 9.55# while Marc and Julie Downs (Bedlam) had four fish weighing 9.33# to take fifteenth place. The other limit brought to the scales was by the team of David Thompson and Mark Stricklin (Ada) with a total weight of 8.88# to place sixteenth.
DAY TWO
The Sunday tournament started with all three of the conditions weather conditions, that is, the wind was added to the first day rain and cold temperature. There were only 9 limits weighed with Jeremiah Petricek and Kyle Warden (Bedlam) taking the top honors with five fish weighing 16.70#. Their bag included the big bass of the day and the weekend tipping the scales at 6.19#. Second went to first day winners, Johnny Babb and Allen Musser, with the other 16# stringer of the day with a total weight of 16.13#. Gene Vogt and Cody Hunt moved up to third with a 14.63# limit while Troney Langston and George Sawyer garnered fourth with 13.57#. Stewart and Wyatt dropped to fifth on day two with a limit weighing 13.14#. Dean Matts and Wayne Osborn moved up from day one to take the sixth-place spot with a limit tipping the scales at 12.99#. Brandon West and Chris Angier moved from eighth on day one to seventh today with another limit weighing 12.89# to take seventh. Eighth place, at 12.16#, was Donnie Combrink and Curtiss Plunkett while Keltyn Hendrix and Bradley Sullivan took ninth, with the final limit for day two, with a total weigh of 11.68#. Rounding out the top ten was Brandon Beck and Jake Beam with 4 fish weighing 11.32#. The next three places were recorded with three fish bags. Jason and Lynn Conaway led the group at eleventh with a weight of 7.10# while Marc and Julie Downs were close behind with 7.05# for twelfth place. Jeffrey Linder and Brett Krieger (Ponca City) was the other 3 fish team, taking thirteenth with a weight of 6.67#. Fourteenth went to Jason and Issac Lair (Bedlam) with a weight of 6.05# while Jody and Don Linder garnered fifteenth with a total of 4.28#. Sixteenth went to Jackie Husmann and Sandy Hooker while John Garcia and Brett Taylor took seventeenth place.
SUMMARY
The total fish weighed in was 93 on day one and 63 on day two. All the 153 fish weighed in were released alive. Day one total weigh was 231.86# or 2.49# per fish while day two produced only 63 fish weighing 170.88# or 2.71# per fish. The top 4 leaders received a pay out while one blind draw was also drawn each day. The team of Johnny Babb and Allen Musser took home $750 with Johnny Babb adding an additional $200 for being the leading Ranger Cup angler each day. Jeremiah Petricek and Kyle Warden received the $500 as a result of their first-place prize on day two while Stewart and Wyatt Ryan collected $250 placing second on day one. Jason and Lynn Conaway and the team of Gene Vogt and Cody Hunt each took the 2 third place payouts yielding $125 each. The team of Troney Langston and George Swayer and the team of Jeremy Vantuyl and Dustin Meyer each took the fourth-place money with each getting $75. The $50 blind draw for day one went to Jody Linder while the day two went to Brandon West and Chris Angier.
